Who We Are
We are here for outcome, not for income
Serve & Care Foundation (SCF) is a community-led education initiative founded by Roomi Merchant and Syed Yasir Afzal. SCF established its first learning center on the rooftop of a building in Garden West, Karachi, to serve out-of-school children. At this center, children were introduced to basic literacy through structured programs such as Jugnu and Jolly Phonics.
Today, SCF focuses on identifying out-of-school children and preparing them academically and socially for admission into mainstream educational institutions. The initiative also works closely with families to reduce barriers to education and promote long-term learning outcomes.
FOUNDER’S MESSAGE
At the Serve & Care Foundation, we are committed to ensuring every child has the chance to learn, grow, and build a future of dignity and opportunity. Since 2020 we have worked with families in Karachi who face barriers to education and stability, offering consistent learning, care, and support where it matters most.
Our approach goes beyond immediate needs. We aim for lasting impact by helping children and their communities become more self-reliant and confident. Initiatives like SCF Shop are part of our effort to create sustainable support for our programmes so that we can serve more children without depending solely on donations.
We work with a dedicated team, volunteers, partners, and supporters who share the belief that education and opportunity can transform lives. Together we are strengthening futures and expanding possibilities for those who need it most.
